Hi, my name is Jason A. Elliot and I've been in healthcare for the last 30 years and the last 18 years as a physician extender, and over my tenure in healthcare, I have specialized in trauma critical care, acute care, surgery, pediatric critical care, and most recently, cardiothoracic critical care.
As one of the youngest paramedics to graduate my class, I actually had to wait six months after graduation to apply for my state license just to meet the age requirement.
So from a very young man, and the moment I could, I was caring for my patients. And it didn't take me long to realize that I didn't want to just transport and care for patients in the pre hospital environment.
I wanted to get involved in the care of my patients from start to finish, from admit to discharge. So I went back to medical school and I graduated UC Davis School of Medicine and ultimately obtained my master's degree in advanced physician assistant studies. I believe it is important for us to understand the roots of where we come from and you know, a little bit more about my experience.
So let me give you a quick snapshot of what my bedside patient care has looked like over the last 30 years of my career in medicine. I started as a volunteer, a candy striper, I believe is what they called it back then.
In 1999, I would obtain my paramedic license and would ultimately allow me to care for patients in the pre-hospital setting and becoming one of the youngest civilian crew chiefs and flight medic at that time. I would then hang up my flight wings after seven years to pursue my career as a physician extender.
And for 18 years, I would have the opportunity to work at several universities. Hospitals throughout the US from coast to coast and over the last seven years, I have not only been working on my exit plan, I have also been developing a system that has helped continue my colleagues' escape from the demands at the bedside, creating the life where dreams ripple in the waves of possibilities.
A few years ago, I found myself in a position working with physicians and nurses alike, where we were getting burned out because of the situation that we were placed into. And what I found was interesting is in April of this last year, an article in Forbes magazine cited that 47% of healthcare workers plan on leaving their position by 2025.
And I couldn't believe that even more today, because back then, 50% of our workforce wasn't allowed to come to work because of their age and the situation that they were dealing with at the time, they didn't want to be exposed to anything, right?
Fast forward three years now, I'm in a situation where we have all these new nurses and physicians and residents that have graduated and have been put into a workforce that they are totally getting burned out because of the demands that the industry is placed on us, that they too are looking to leave their profession sooner than a 30 year career would have.
And it was because of that I decided to create this platform where I help bedside providers and healthcare practitioners transition from bedside patient care to a beachside lifestyle, creating focus, determination and overcoming these challenges to answer the call that we're looking for.
It is my sole purpose and strong desire to empower my colleagues and other healthcare professionals to transition from bedside patient care to a beachside lifestyle.
